img_00703Forget Asti (too sweet), Prosecco (too trendy), and Franciacorta (alas, too expensive). People who are willing to pop their corks on a Tuesday are looking for an all together more eclectic experience. Enter Lessini Durello, a little known DOC in Italy’s Veneto producing sparkling wine — among other things — from the Durella grape. Fresh and floral, delicate and dry with just the right amount of mouthwatering acidity, it makes the perfect Tuesday night tipple.

Shown here – Cantina di Montecchia di Crosara’s Lussini Durello Spumante Brut. Cost – about $15.

wallys1Orlando, FL: Half fluorescent lit liquor store, half dark dive bar, Wally’s provides a welcome respite from the neon soaked, strip mall sprawl of tourist-trapped Orlando. Best known for three things: nudie lady wallpaper, heavy handed pours, and the fact that you can still smoke inside while you get your drink on, Wally’s is a longtime fave among locals that is practically unheard of among visitors. Bartenders are friendly; drinks are cheap, but if you find the prospect of contracting lung cancer or not being able to order the Presidente Margarita too frightening, please drive yourself to one of the dozens of metro Orlando area Chili’s locations. If you want kitschy, authentic, boozy fun, drink here.
